<\/div>[\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]A day dedicated to research and design for training centers and individuals within the academic sector, to present their research on design, whether completed or still in progress, doctoral thesis and projects among students from the third cycle (postgraduates) and companies. Companies and institutions can also submit projects related to research and design.[\/vc_column_text]
<\/div>[\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text]This forum intends to be a meeting place for researchers, educational centers and companies, where they can show their curiosity, aspirations, works and lines of research. It has been organized to encourage new collaborations and to start new common projects for the future.<\/p>\n

Until recently, relations between research and design have not been free from prejudices or confrontations between designers from the practice<\/em> and researchers from the contiguous disciplines<\/em>, as Pierre JanStappers has said. However, both have more in common than they seem at first glance. So, according to Mr. Stappers: \u201cBoth design and research are characterized by iterative, idea-generating cycles, and they both show these ideas to the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

Moreover, the major changes that design is currently facing are giving birth to new professional profiles, which are increasinly related to research.<\/p>\n

Bearing in mind the above stated, this day aims to defend the design process and to encourage, through design, the recognition of the role of research. It also wants to contrast the role of educational centers in this area, especially with postgraduate design studies and continuous training: specialization, updating, research and professional migration.<\/p>\n

The BID Meeting intends to be a platform to make known both theoretical and applied research \u2014the latter currently being used in Ibero-American design environments. Thus, during this year\u2019s edition, communication projects linked to the 5 thematic areas<\/a> of the 2017 BID Meeting may be submitted. They must be in line with the categories<\/strong>\u00a0proposed by Nigel Cross (a and b) and by Christopher Frayling for research related to design<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

  1. Research in design<\/strong>, which includes areas such as the history of design, esthetics and theory, that is to say based on the proper nature of design.<\/li>\n
  2. Research through design<\/strong>. Research based on the identification of a question which is specially related to design, or, in other words, \u201cresearch-action,\u201d which requires systematic research through practice.<\/li>\n
  3. Research for design<\/strong>. Research which consists of the creation of objects and systems that show research results and prove their value.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Objectives<\/h2>\n

    Among its objectives, the forum aims to be part of online platforms and to reflect paradigm shifts. It offers to create a tool which would permit pursuing a dialogue, remotely and continuously, to keep communicating after the BID Meeting.<\/p>\n

    1. Make known the current teams, profiles and lines of research from the educational centers participating in the BID Meeting, to encourage cooperation and make it easier.
      \n2. Spread the renowned research projects in Ibero-America, whether completed or still in progress.
      \n3. Make meetings between research centers and companies easier, with regards to research in the various fields of design.
      \n4. Establish the rules of an Ibero-American NETWORK for RESEARCHERS with regards to the various fields of Design.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Formats and structure of the activity<\/h2>\n

      This day offers a dynamic meeting, rigorous yet relaxed, between researchers, centers and companies interested in the field of research related to design. It intends to be a space not only dedicated to presentations but also to meetings, relations and reflections on this topic. For this reason, this activity is built as an 8 to 15 minute-long presentation.<\/p>\n

      NB: The organization will be particularly strict with the duration of the presentations so that everyone who is interested can participate.<\/em><\/p>\n

      Block 1 \u2013 Quick presentations about centers, groups and research teams<\/strong>
      \nA brief statement in which each center\/team will explain its lines of research, areas of expertise and interests and the kind of other experts or lines of research it would be ready to collaborate with.<\/p>\n

      Block 2 \u2013 Quick presentations about research projects<\/strong>
      \nOral presentation about the selected research projects.<\/p>\n

      Block 3 \u2013Quick presentations about companies<\/strong>
      \nQuick presentations, in which each company invited to the activity will explain its identity, interests and needs, and with which experts, projects or lines of research it would be ready to work.<\/p>\n

      Block 4 \u2013 Quick presentations about publications<\/strong>
      \nA block dedicated to publications that have as a main objective the dissemination of research in any of the fields of design.<\/p>\n

      Disciplines and thematic axes<\/h2>\n

      Research in the field of design is increasingly interdisciplinary in various areas.\u00a0 For this reason, this day offers a structure which makes possible the categorization of\u00a0 different axes that arise thanks to a flexible structure. This classification will also allow us, as a reflection point, to determine which disciplines and areas of research are the most frequent.<\/p>\n
