Vasco Branco is Doctor in Power Engineering and Computers (Interaction Design) for the FEUP and Associate Professor in the Department of Communication and Arts of the University of Aveiro where he was one of the first people responsible of the development of the field of Design (Bachelor degree, masters and PhDs).

He was coordinator of the PhD program in Design (@UA) until 2012, a collective initiative from Aveiro and Porto Universities.

He is the director of ID+ (Research Institute for Design, Media and Culture). He represents the University of Aveiro as the vice-president of the ADDICT (Agency for the Development of Creative Industries).

He is a member of the Executive Committee of the European Acadeñy of Design and of the editorial council of some international magazines in the field of Design (The Design Journal, The ‘Radical’ Designist: Journal of Design Culture, I+DISEÑO).

Since its beginning, the University of Aveiro (UA) became one of the most dynamic and innovative universities in the country. The UA has now more than 15.600 students in 16 University Departments and four Technical Universities that work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary way, according to their academic and research affinities.

The UA is a place for research, where the products and innovative solutions are developed to contribute for the progress in science and technology.

It is a privileged collaborator with companies and other national and international organizations with whom the University collaborates in several projects and for whom it provides important services.

In 2011, 470 research projects and technology transfers were operative in the UA, of which 54 were financed by international and Europeans programs. All of these projects are developed in 14 research Universities and 4 Associate Laboratories, of different scientific areas (Environment and Sea, ceramic and composite materials; nanostructures, nanomodelling and nanofabrication, telecommunications, electronics and telematics, mechanic technology and automation; geo-technologies and geo-engineering, cellular biology, organic chemistry of natural products, mathematics and applications, education and behavioral sciences, languages and culture, technology and science of communication, governance, competitivity and public policies, policies for higher education, music and dance, design).
